Past Concert Performances ’05

Members of the San Francisco Symphony, as part of the 2004/05 Chamber Music Series are premiering Bruce Broughton’s Hudson River Valley, a woodwind octet, Sunday, February 27th. The concert takes place at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall at 2 PM.

The program includes Sarn Oliver’s Trio, Kodály’s Serenade, and Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34.

Bruce Broughton’s arrangement of David Raksin’s theme from “The Bad and the Beautiful” for 2 pianos, will be performed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The performance is part of the SUNDAYS LIVE series and will also include Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. Featured artists include pianists Bryan Pezzone and Caroline Oltmanns, and conductor Brent McMunn.

The performance will take place on Sunday, April 3, 2005, 6pm–7pm, at the Leo S. Bing Theater, LACMA. A live broadcast can be heard on K-Mozart, 105.1 FM, Los Angeles.

The Cleveland Orchestra is performing Broughton’s Piccolo Concerto on April 7, 9 and 10. Mary Kay Fink is the piccolo soloist and Matthias Bamert conducts. The program, entitled “Orchestral Showpieces” also includes Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2.
